Wilwood 4 Pot Conversion Kit
I have developed my own ventilated front disc brake conversion kit for the MGB. The kit uses off-the-shelf Wilwood Dynalite 4 pot calipers, custom-made alloy mounting brackets, and a choice of a high-quality ventilated brake disc in either one-piece or two-piece design.
The front rotor diameter is only just slightly larger than stock, at 276mm, so clearance is not a problem. They readily go under the standard 14 inch MG rims.
The kit will give you modern, big-bite brakes, which will never overheat - even in outright race applications. I have been running this setup on extremely hot tracks, such as the Sepang International F1 Circuit in Malaysia, where tarmac temperatures can soar up to 65 degrees Celsius, without fading or boiling the brakes. When I was still using the cast OEM calipers and thin un-vented rotors I used to boil the brakes during every race.
For best performance, I recommend you use Castrol SRF brake fluid, or any other high-temperature high-performance, mineral-based, compatible brake fluid. NOTE: Do NOT use DOT 5 brake fluid, ever! Also, do not mix different brake fluids. Purge the whole system when installing our kit and bleed the brakes after each heavy use, before going out on track again.
Pictures of an installed kit, as on my Racing MGB, are shown below. Please click the thumbnails for larger views. NOTE: Prices will vary depending on what specific Dynalite caliper you want for your application. I can supply any type, from the original Dynalite II (price per below), to billet or even forged billet (FDL) Dynalite calipers. Also note that I can supply polished and plated calipers for a show-car finish!
